"OFF THE WALL"
Vans was founded in 1966 in Cypress, California, by brothers Paul and James van Doren, although they initially called the company the Van Doren Rubber Company. The first Vans model was the #44 Deck Shoe, a sturdy canvas shoe with a grippy rubber waffle sole, known today as the Vans Authentic . The Authentic (still one of the best-selling skate shoes) quickly became the go-to shoe for skaters throughout California thanks to its durable construction and high quality. In 1975, Vans decided to capitalize on its enormous popularity among skaters with the now iconic "Off the Wall" line. The name "Off the Wall" comes from skaters who began riding the walls of dried-out swimming pools. The first model in the Off the Wall line was the Era , quickly followed by the Chukka Low . These shoes, with extra padding to protect skaters' feet and ankles, were designed by pro skaters Stacy Peralta and Tony Alva and are now considered the first skate shoes in history. Besides these successful skate shoes, Vans became known for another iconic model: the Vans Slip-On . This simple shoe became an integral part of the uniform of various youth cultures. Despite a brief dip in the 1980s, Vans remains one of the biggest brands in the skate scene. As the first company of its kind, Vans is also hard to ignore. Originality, style, and quality are still the hallmarks of Vans. Besides an extensive line of skate shoes (also very popular among non-skaters), Vans offers a contemporary clothing collection consisting of sweaters , T-shirts, and pants . Vans Half Cab
Of all the iconic Vans skate shoes (including the Old Skool ,Era and Sk8 Hi ) the Vans Half Cab is perhaps the most iconic. The story behind this shoe is too good not to tell. In 1989, the skateboarding legend received the first signature shoe in skateboarding history: the Cab. This high-top with dragon logo was a huge success, but Steve noticed that many street skaters were cutting the shoes down right out of the box; to allow for more freedom of movement, they were cutting the high-tops halfway off. Steve tried it himself and liked it so much that he suggested to Vans that they release a lower version of the Cab. In 1991, Vans released a mid-top version of Steve's shoe, with the Caballero logo replaced by the words Half Cab and an image of Steve Caballero doing his signature trick, the half cab. The
